Dow Announces Price Increase for Triethylene Glycol in North America Midland, MI - February 15, 2005 The Dow Chemical Company has announced a price increase for triethylene glycol (TEG) in North America. Prices for TEG will increase by $0.03/lb., effective immediately for spot business and March 1 or as contracts permit for contract customers. "North American TEG demand continues to increase, and supplies remain very tight," said John O. Smith, commercial manager, EO and higher glycols, for Dow's oxides and glycols business. "Continued strong demand in gas drying is expected to last into April, and similar strong demand in cement grinding, specialty polyols, and plasticizers is expected to keep supplies low." Dow is the leading global producer of ethylene oxide (EO), a major chemical building block in the production of ethylene glycol (EG), diethylene glycol, (DEG), triethylene glycol (TEG) and tetra ethylene glycol (tetra) and other chemicals. While approximately 60 percent of Dow's total EO capacity is used for EG production, Dow also uses EO to make a number of derivative products, including TEG. TEG is used as a chemical intermediate, solvent and plasticizer in such applications as: textile manufacturing, gas treating, gasoline and hydrocarbon purification.
